Tárrega Would Have Played a Stratocaster by Jason Field

May 15 @ 10:00 am May 16 @ 11:30 pm

Synopsis:

Francisco de Asís Tárrega y Eixea (21 November 1852 – 15 December 1909), a classical guitarist and composer of the Romantic period…and the Fender Stratocaster electric guitar (1954 – Present).

Each adorned in musicological revelry, and undeniably legendary in their own respective incalculable impacts and influences on the world of guitar and music.  History saw them separated by half a century, but in my head they live together.

Playing my three favourite Tárrega compositions on the Strat – Lagrima, Adelita, and Pavana – only serves to strengthen my tongue-in-cheek notion that should their timelines have overlapped, Tárrega and the Stratocaster would have found each other.

Three inspiring pieces played beautifully. I’m reminded of how great melodies can be played on any instrument and transcend time. Thanks for sharing your passion.
